The link for Black Springs will be added shortly. The work below is now no longer Untitled. Its new title is

DARK TOURIST.

" the house pushes contemporary minimalism to the point of madness. A kind of nightmare of style consciousness that one can never escape from"

" the fucken things full up with ghosts "

2 recent stills from a Virtual Reality work in progress.

The viewer becomes hopelessly lost in a house that is inhabited by many Poltergeists.

Stage one: involves the design of the architectural space and the construction of the virtual environment within a programming environment designed to utilize Direct X .

Joyce Hinterding will design the  sound.

The work will run on a PC with a recent graphics card and is designed for gallery installation.

The work uses the latest implementation of Direct X and its sophisticated pixel shading technology, 3d real time geometry and lighting, along with multi directional sound.

The work uses Six degrees of freedom for navigation. The  work uses extensive number of  video textures with alpha channels to create a richly cinematic environment along with hand modeled 3d objects to make up the world.

In this prototype, navigation is via a traditional game controller but the work will eventually use neural feedback i.e. thought  control for navigation.

The work is designed for projection and will maintain 16 x 9 aspect ratio.

As the work develops we intend to add audio input from live antennae (see the hinterding website) that will have an environmental effect on the atmosphere and mood of the space.

In the image above we see a test of fog and lighting and get an idea of the mood of the virtual space  - the house pushes contemporary minimalism to the point of madness. A kind of nightmare of style consciousness that one can never escape from.

We see an apparition of the many dead children who have come to inhabit this delirious over heated interior. There is nothing to do in this house but terrorize the Dark Tourists who enter its portal.
